Elisabet is from Pennsylvania, where she received her BS in Immunology & Infectious Disease from Penn State University. She first fell in love with basic research after a two semester SEA-PHAGES program in collaboration with HHMI. Her undergraduate research characterized population evolution of clinical MRSA isolates using multi-virulence-locus-sequencing typing. Elisabet joined the Igor Brodsky lab at the University of Pennsylvania for her Ph.D. where she studied cell death pathways in response to Salmonella Typhimurium and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis infection. Currently, Elisabet is investigating host-pathogen interactions in the Nizet Lab with a focus on antibiotic-resistant bacteria and their interactions with the complement systems. She is working to develop bacterial membrane-derived nanosponge-based vaccines against MDR pathogens in collaboration with the Liangfang Zhang lab.

 

In the Nizet lab, Alison is continuing to study the interface between host and pathogen. She is specifically interested in understanding how pathogen manipulation of Siglec-mediated signaling influences the host immune response.
