Ruth graduated from the University of Washington in
Seattle with Biochemistry and Chemistry degrees. She worked
on a research project to characterize hyaluronic acid
hydrogel scaffolds to aid in bone regeneration. She
completed her medical training at the University of
Washington School of Medicine and went on to complete her
Pediatrics Residency and Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at
UCSD and Rady Children’s Hospital / University of California
San Diego. Ruth is currently a member of the Pediatric
Pulmonary Fellow Division at Rady’s and continues the
Nizet Lab for the research component of her activities. Her
research will look at the role of bacterial sialidases and
host sialic acid biology in modulating the bacterial
infections and inflammatory lung disease of cystic fibrosis.
