Saugat Poudel
 Saugat was born in Nepal and moved to US early on, eventually settling in Seattle. He attended University of Washington and got his Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. During his undergraduate years, he studied the biomechanics of fimbria on uropathogenic E.coli under the guidance of Dr. Wendy Thomas. After graduating, he continued working with Dr. Thomas for a year as a lab technician. During this time, he helped develop single molecule force spectroscopy protocols for Magnetic Tweezers.

Saugat is currently a PhD student in the Biomedical Sciences program, studying  in the Systems Biology Research Group under the guidance of primary mentor Bernhard Palsson, with joint mentorship in our research group. His work focuses on the mechanisms of antibioticsresistance in Staphylococcus aureus. The research brings together the fields of microbiology, systems biology and genetics to combine transcriptomic data, experimental evolution, and contraint-based metabolic modeling to understand how physiological and environmental contexts effect the mechanisms of antibiotics and emergence of resistance.
