Josh was
born and raised in San Jose, CA where he received his
Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at San Jose State
University. In 2013, he joined UCSD Skaggs School of
Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Dual Degree Program
(PharmD/PhD) and, after completing two years of pharmacy
school, matriculated into UCSD’s Biomedical Sciences
Graduate Program for the PhD component of his training As a graduate student in the Nizet lab, Josh’s current research examines the effects of widely prescribed medications in response to various bacterial infections and the mechanisms at which these medications alter the innate immune system. In particular, he is uncovering the role of anti-platelet therapy in response to a Staphylococcus aureus blood infection, and the role of platelet physiology in host defense. Additionally, Josh is researching the roles the PARs in innate immunity, and how these receptors can be pharmacologically exploited for enhancing host defense. |
