Michael Florio
Originally from San Diego, California, Michael graduated from Mira Costa College with an Associate of Science Degree in Biotechnology. Michael brings to our laboratory extensive experience in mouse colony management, including establishing detailed breeding schemes for knockout and transgenic lines, all aspects of health supervision and administration of medical treatments.  He also works with several lab members in experiments examining novel treatment strategies for antibiotic-resistant infections.  Michael's previous professional positions include work at the Genome Institute of Novartis Foundation, the Scripps Research Institute, General Atomics, and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, supporting the research programs of top investigators in the fields of genetics, cancer research, infectious disease and inflammation biology.  In addition to his role as the Vivarium manager for the Nizet Lab, Michael serves in a broader capacity within the UCSD Animal Care Program management network.
