Tamara Bhandari
Tamara Bhandarai hails from South Pasadena, CA and received her undergraduate education at the Yale University during which time she conducted research on microbial proteomics.  After graduation, Tamara served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal and completed an M.P.H. degree in Infectious Diseases at U.C. Berkeley School of Public Health during which time she was awarded a James Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Fellowship from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to study the linkage between in utero infection and autism.  Before joining the BMS Graduate program at UCSD, she worked on meningococcal vaccine development in the laboratory of Gregory Moe at Oakland Children's Research Institute.

Tamara's current research examines novel pharmacological approaches to boost innate immune defenses against antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens such as MRSA, placing a special emphasis on targeting the activities of the hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) transcriptional regulator.  Tamara is supported in part by the UCSD Pharmacology Training Grant.
