On May 13, 2005, Anand Datta successfully completed the oral defense of his doctoral thesis in the UCSD Molecular Pathology PhD training program entitled:  "The Genetic Basis of Streptolysin S (Beta-Hemolysin) Production in Group A Streptococcus and its Role as Virulence Factor in Invasive Infection".  Here are photos from the celebration immediately afterwards, which included a stirring rendition of "The Datta Rock" performed by Laura "The King" Kwinn and the Datta-ettes, free-flowing champagne and a buffet of Indian delights.  Anand's next stop after San Diego is the Residency Training Program of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis.
